Day 3 Visits Bern

Ananth Parameswaran  Nampoothiri

It was a rainy day and we were planning to visit Bern the capital city of Switzerland. So I left my host family’s house with my partner at 6.45 am  and caught the train to Fribourg from Murten station. All my Indian friends were waiting at Fribourg and I joined them at 7.28 am. We caught the train to Bern from there.

First thing we saw in Bern was the Parliament building and the Swiss Bank. We saw these from a courtyard in front of it. While we stood there looking at everything, one of our Swiss teachers said that we were standing on top of the underground vault which all the gold from the Swiss Bank was stored.  It was still raining and we were all clothed in rain jackets and were holding umbrellas. We then went on  a hiking trip to see bears in their enclosure.  On the way we did some shopping as we were walking down a  footpath with stores to one side. We saw the bear and as it was raining we went back and took shelter under a roof along the footpath.

We were then shown a massive clock, our teachers said that we ccould go around for shopping and should reunite in front of the clock. So we dispersed in groups, and my group and I went around window shopping. After that we reunited in front of the clock tower and wanted to have a picnic. But we were not able to go picnicking as it was raining cats and dogs. We then went to a University nearby and had our lunch. A lunch we trolled each other cracked jokes and had a lot of fun.

We then went to visit the museum of communication in Bern. After about 30 minutes of walking we reached the museum and by that time we were almost exhausted because of the rain. We got in and removed all our jackets as it was cosy inside. There was our guide who said that this museum had three flours. First was the ground floor and then two more flours were waiting for us below it. He then gave each of us a token and told that we cold  take selfies of ours with this token for free and said that we could now go and see the museum. We started our journey through the museum. First of all we saw this selfie machine and took a selfie with my friends.

First floor had this selfie machine, a table with postcards and pencils and crayons for writing on the cards some models of old cars, and so many other things. The second floor greeted the visitors with a large model of a brain and many other interesting things.

The second floor had the provision for printing the selfie photos and had a huge wall for putting these selfie pics. There were so many other interesting things. We had a lot of fun and after spending most of the afternoon there we went back to the locker room and took all our jackets and stuff and again started to walk back to the train station.

We took a bus from near the museum to the station as it was little a far away. We reached the station and we were late so that we had to wait for the next train. While we were waiting we went around the station. After that we came back and took the train back to Fribourg and from there we went to our host families.

It was an awesome trip but it would have been much better if it was  sunny than rainy. Also we saw the brown bear, the massive clock tower, and so many other interesting things at Bern.

That’s all for today.
